This scene is idyllic and bursting with energy. The trees display a radiant reflection of the sun as we feel the spectral power of nature on a beautiful day.

As John Varriano set up his easel to paint a landscape a family arrived to  enjoy the lovely weather.  The children began to play on a rock and the artist spontaneously painted them into the scene. Like Morse code, the figures are dots and dashes of paint evoking the exuberant, carefree summer.  The colorful clothing lends a marvelous contrast to the brilliant variety of greens that predominate the painting.
