John Varriano captures the unique and beautiful quality of the color at twilight. The sun sinks lower in the sky and wonderful spectral colors begin to emerge from the atmosphere.  The park pavement takes on a lavender hue, and the myriad of greens and blues are reflected in the water of the pond.

This is an autumnal scene and the various colors of the fallen leaves make a striking contrast with the cooler colors in the painting. The crowds of people begin

to disperse and we are left with little groups of two and three people lending to the calm and reflective mood of the piece. Also notable are the long shadows so indicative of this time of day and how they are upon closer look, also infused with color.
