The Lush Cherry Blossom is the focal point of this charming scene, but it is the paint itself that could very well be the main subject. John Varriano applied his paint thick and directly, the rich blotches of gorgeous color weaved together to form a jewel-like tapestry.

The shadows as well as the trees are filled with color. On this bright, sunny day we can get a glimpse of 5th avenue seen through the foliage as reflected in the background buildings. An elderly couple leisurely walk into the scene, giving a sense of eternal calm, as a woman’s dog barks in the foreground perhaps at a scurrying squirrel.
